No dialysis today, and I'm making urine. Andy and Neal called on the
way to the airport.
Charlie Maynard stopped by, and I was glad to have the opportunity
to wish him well on his retirement. Charlie and I were the team that built
the Providence Mental Health Center into a national model for a CMHC. We
were in the right place at the right time. We were like brothers, each
knowing what the other was thinking, each supporting the other. But after
12 years, when our philosophies began to differ, and I left, I did so in
anger. We've remained friendly, but I never had the chance to tell him
how much I admired what he did until today.
Marjorie, Jonathan, and Josie arrived. I haven't seen Josie in months. Her hair is brown now. She speaks clearly in full sentences. When she climbed up in bed with me to light the Hanukah Menorah, I thought I'd melt. She knows the blessings in Hebrew from hearing the Shabbat candle blessings each week, and loves chanting them. She makes pictures for her Zayde. It took about an hour before she had the entire floor captivated. Lots of visitors today:
