CABO: SATURDAY

We took in our last rays this morning at Palmilla and then drove down the coast just a bit to Hotel Cabo San Lucas. This top-of-the-line hotel was utterly empty. No one in the pool. No one on the beach. No one in the restaurant. We had a couple of mojitos, some good guacamole and chips, and some good ceviche. The place seems to have gone a bit to seed, and the upkeep on the grounds was a bit on the wild side. Still, there is a sheltered sand beach, which the other luxury hotels don't have, although the water is still cold.

We dropped off our car at the airport, emptied our pockets of pesos in the duty-free, and awaiting the long flights come. We got the exit row on Alaska again, and we're first class back to Charlotte and then Providence on the red-eye.

We both felt that the amount of time on vacation was just right, and we're well-rested (hardly any tan though with sunblock all day).

In retrospect, we think that the Palmilla was the best of all choices for us, especially with the upgraded room. It's luxurious, but not pretentious, has a nice clientele, and it's small enough that the concierge quickly learns your name and what you like, and the doorman remembers your car and has it ready for you. For those who want something completely different, Casa Natalia in San José would be a good choice. And for those who want the ultimate in expense and bad taste, Las Ventanas is the place.

Hasta luego, amigos.
