ROYAL HIDEAWAY
PLAYA DEL CARMEN
QUINTANA ROO, MEXICO
THURSDAY, JANUARY 17

A gorgeous day. We had breakfast--poached eggs, cereal, strawberries, fruit plate. We went down to the beach. It is so relaxed and uncrowded here. Today I discoverd the caipirinha, a drink from Brazil--fresh lime juice, sugar, light rum. Delicious. I had three while I read. Carol was more productive--she went to la classe de pintura, where she made lovely ceramic bowl.

Carol a la classe de pintura

We had a bite of lunch, and Carol went to the spa for an aromatherapy massage, which she described as ethereal. We had another Spanish lesson, sat around the pool, a jacuzzi, a shower, and on to a repeat performance at Palazzo.

We had the best dinner yet, al fresco at Palazzo, overlooking the hotel grounds, the ocean, Cozumel in the distance, the stars overhead, and Pavarotti singing in the background. We had a mushroom tuile amuse-bouche, wonderful carpaccio, Caesar salad, a delicious salmon risotto, chicken arrabiata, spinach fettucine with mushrooms. After dinner, espresso with a cheese plate. Mmmm...
