We said our goodbyes, and Carol and I wandered around the State Capitol, designed by Thomas Jefferson.

George Washington, a Virginian, is a soldier and statesman revered by both North and South.

Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy, lived here, but he was not a native Virginian. Robert E. Lee, on the other hand, was, and he reigns supreme. Lee was offered the command of both the armies of the North and the South, and he chose the South, saying, "I could not take up arms against my fellow Virginians."

The Capitol is a beautiful building, lovingly maintained. Those who have been in the Rhode Island State Capitol will appreciate the immaculate urinals of the Confederacy.
