CRISIS-DECEMBER 2003
WEDNESDAY

After dialysis, they take me to invasive radiology, where they put in a more permanent catheter in my internal jugular under the skin. They use lidocaine for local anesthetic and Versed to make me blotto. But they don't use enough Versed, and I remember it all. Not bad, though. Martha Soja is there, the very model of a great nurse. She is the wife of Walter Soja, who was an administrator at Butler. I get back to the room and wait for my head to clear. I ask the nurse for something for pain and she gives me some i.v. morphine. Now I'm really zonked. When my head clears at 6 PM, they let me go home. How wonderful to sleep in my own bed.
