One last bike ride to Dania, a pickup of croissants at Giorgio's and bagels at Sage's, and we met at Bess's for a late breakfast.
..Success!
We took Bess out to Eckerd's for a free blood pressure reading (178/73). She learned how to use the machine and was so enchanted that she wants Joy to take her every week. She thinks it's like WebTV. Then the kids and we drove down to the Wolfsonian Musuem in South Beach, where there was an exhibit of objets d'art and design in aluminum--more aluminum than you ever want to see. The highlight of the visit was the notes that the Phunn Phamily left in the visitors' guestbook for the exhibit, especially Andy's: "My parents fed me out of aluminum pots and plates and silverware, and now I have cancer, but I forgive Alcoa and Mr. Reynolds, and I will not sue."
We returned to Bess's to say goodbye and went on for dinner at Max's Grille on the Las Olas Riverfront of the Fort Lauderdale. What a superb restaurant, a bit pricey, but first class and worth it. There are tables on a mall, tables on their deck on the river, with a steel band playing, and a quiet and spacious elegant space inside, which we chose. We had a three-tiered appetizer of stone crabs, mahogany sweet and fruity chicken wings, and teriyaki; crabcakes;
Once more, Josie loved the hubbub. She passed another milestone in this
restaurant, learning to mimic Jonathan's gestures with her fist and tongue.
..
For dessert, the kids went back to Jaxson's and we returned to the motel to pack and to get some sleep, so that we could make our 6:35 AM return flight (Oi!!) in the morning.
